I think she's more personable and can communicate better with others than I can."
The fandom couldn't tell the difference between Emma performing warmth and Emma actually being warm.
Where Emma Myers keeps her anger
Every Nine buries a storage closet somewhere. Emma's is the driver's seat.
The question on The Squeeze was: "If you were arrested with no explanation, what would your friends and family assume you had done?"
"I probably would have punched somebody," she said. "I don't know — probably got into a fight with somebody over road rage. I'm a very loud driver. I yell a lot when I'm driving."
The host blinked. It did not match the girl sitting across from her. Emma kept going: "I don't like road rage — I just like have a lot to say. I have a lot to say. I probably would have caused an argument over a parking spot or something."
This is Nine anger doing what Nine anger does — finding the one place where it cannot hurt anyone. Alone in the car, windows up, no audience, no consequence. She monologues. She yells. She imagines the confrontation. She drives away before it becomes real. "I drive away before it gets too serious," she said. "I haven't got to the punching part yet."
The dance-studio bullying never got a direct response either. "The way to get back at those people," she said on The Squeeze, "is by freaking killing them with kindness. Absolutely destroying them with kindness." That is her phrase, her emphasis, her strategy. The bullies who ignored her for years now message her on Instagram. She does not block them. She does not ignore them. She replies — politely enough to humiliate anyone paying attention. "My work and everything speaks for itself," she said. "And on top of that, I'm just gonna make you feel stupid by treating you so well."
Read the logic. Refusing their kindness would be conflict. Confronting them would be conflict. Staying silent would be conflict. The only route left is to be so pleasant to the people who hurt her that the moral weight of the old injury quietly transfers to them. Strangers' DMs are restricted. Old acquaintances with her number get the kindness treatment. Nothing loud ever happens.
The rage gets its outlet later, in the car, at a parking spot, at no one. That's Nine anger in its pure form — real, significant, and routed so thoroughly around other people that most of her fans have no idea it exists.
What overnight fame does to an introvert
She went from 900 Instagram followers to 5 million in three days, and somewhere near 12 million within the year. She did not notice. She was on location filming Family Switch. Her mother flagged it at Christmas.
The response to overwhelm is the pattern. She did not double down on the feed to regain control. She did not build a media strategy. She turned off her tagged photos. She restricted DMs. She asked her sisters to stop sending her screenshots of what people were saying on Twitter. "It just gets overwhelming sometimes," she said. "Even if it's nothing, harmless — just pictures of me. It's a lot to have so many people talking about you and you not even knowing that they're talking about you."
Then the sentence that nearly every Nine in a performance career eventually hits: "I didn't notice that I was putting value in [the attention], but when you would go through a quiet time and it wouldn't be there, and you would stop being recognized as much, the paparazzi didn't care as much about you — I started to get sad." Playing Pip: when a Nine has to push
A fair reader objection to this whole article would be: if Emma Myers is really a withdrawn Nine, how do you explain Pip?
Her second-biggest role is not Enid. In August 2024 Netflix released A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, and Emma carried every scene as Pip Fitz-Amobi — a British teenager who refuses to accept the official story of a local girl's death, interrogates suspects, breaks rules, and cannot be talked down. Why Jenna Ortega wanted to protect Emma Myers
Some people invite protection. Emma is one of them. You can watch it happen in real time with almost everyone she works with.
Jenna Ortega, appearing on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard in 2025, said something that startled the hosts: "I don't think I've ever been so protective of somebody." She was talking about Emma. During the Wednesday shoot in Romania, Jenna added, she would wake up every morning and sing Emma a new song about "how beautiful and wonderful she was."
