Her father is J.J. Abrams. Her mother is Katie McGrath, the CEO of Bad Robot, formerly a political strategist on Hillary Clinton's first Senate campaign. Two brothers, Henry and August. Pacific Palisades. Hollywood-adjacent everything.
Most kids of mega-celebrities lean in. They cite the dad in the first interview. They post the iconic photo. They make the access part of the brand.
Gracie's instinct ran the other way.

She told the crowd, "This is beyond every single dream I've ever had — I can't even tell you." She has said versions of that sentence at almost every major venue. The doubling, every single dream I've ever had, I can't even tell you, is the Four's verbal tic of insisting on the inside, even when the outside has just bought every seat in Madison Square Garden.
Twenty thousand people watching her perform from inside the bedroom she had originally written the songs to stay in.
What Audrey Hobert saw that Aaron Dessner saw too
The reading from inside her life is unusually consistent. Two collaborators have been there for almost everything. They describe her in the same way without coordinating.
Audrey Hobert has been Gracie's best friend since fifth grade. She was eleven, Gracie was ten, they met at a fifth-grade graduation. Hobert co-wrote multiple tracks on The Secret of Us, including "Risk" and the eight-week UK number-one "That's So True." For eighteen months they shared a house in Los Angeles.
